For
God has not destined us for wrath, but for obtaining salvation through our
Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or
asleep, we will live together with Him. 11 Therefore encourage one another
and build up one another, just as you also are doing.
[1 Thess. 5:9-11]
Edification
the aim of Christian speech (C.
H. Spurgeon.)
When
Handel's oratorio of the Messiah had won the admiration of many of the great,
Lord Kinnoul took occasion to pay him some compliments on the noble
entertainment he had given the town. "My lord," said the composer,
"I should be sorry if I only entertained them: I wish to make them
better." It is to be feared that many speechmakers at public meetings
could not say as much; and yet how dare any of us waste the time of our
fellow immortals in mere amusing talk! If we have nothing to speak to
edification, how much better to hold our tongue.

But
we request of you, brethren, that you appreciate those who diligently labor
among you, and have charge over you in the Lord and give you instruction, 13
and that you esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Live in
peace with one another. 14 We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly,
encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone. [1
Thess. 5:14]
So then those who were
scattered because of the persecution that occurred in connection with Stephen
made their way to Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to no
one except to Jews alone. 20 But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and
Cyrene, who came to Antioch and began speaking to the Greeks also, preaching
the Lord Jesus. 21 And the hand of the Lord was with them, and a large number
who believed turned to the Lord. 22 The news about them reached the ears of
the church at Jerusalem, and they sent Barnabas off to Antioch. 23 Then when
he arrived and witnessed the grace of God, he rejoiced and began to encourage
them all with resolute heart to remain true to the Lord; 24 for he was a good
man, and full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And considerable numbers were
brought to the Lord. 25 And he left for Tarsus to look for Saul; 26 and when
he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. And for an entire year they met
with the church and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first
called Christians in Antioch. [Acts
11:19-26]
Therefore
I encourage you to take some food, for this is for your preservation, for not
a hair from the head of any of you will perish. [Acts
27:34]
Older
women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips
nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, 4 so that they may
encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, 5
to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own
husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.
[Titus 2:3-5]
As
to all my affairs, Tychicus, our beloved
brother and faithful servant and fellow bond-servant in the Lord, will bring
you information. 8 For I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you
may know about our circumstances and that he may encourage your hearts; 9 and
with him Onesimus, our faithful and beloved brother, who is one of your
number. They will inform you about the whole situation here.
[Col. 4:7-9]
Therefore
when we could endure it no longer, we thought it best to be left behind at
Athens alone, 2 and we sent Timothy, our brother and God's fellow worker in
the gospel of Christ, to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith, 3 so
that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions; for you yourselves know
that we have been destined for this. [1
Thess. 3:3]
Take
care, brethren, that there not be in any one of you an evil, unbelieving
heart that falls away from the living God. 13 But encourage one another day
after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of
you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. 14 For we have become
partakers of Christ, if we hold fast the beginning of our assurance firm
until the end, 15 while it is said, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT
HARDEN YOUR HEARTS, AS WHEN THEY PROVOKED ME."
[Heb. 3:15]
And
do not get drunk with wine, for that is dissipation, but be filled with the
Spirit, 19 speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing and making melody with your heart to the Lord; 20 always giving
thanks for all things in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God, even the
Father; 21 and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ.
[Eph. 5:18-21]
Let
the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and
admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing
with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 Whatever you do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the
Father. [Col.
3:16-17]
Encourage the exhausted, and strengthen the
feeble. [Isa.
35:3]

to all. “The grace of the Adonai Yeshua Ha'Mashiach, and the love of Elohim, and the fellowship of the Ruach

I
removed my notes from this teaching. The Word of G-d is sufficient
to speak His message of encouragement to us to encourage others.
