This Years Theme: Spiritual Warfare

The word war occurs 227 times  in the New American Standard Bible.  The word battle occurs 183 times in the same version.  Are you ready to battle in this war we fight for the L-rd?  We fight against the forces of Satan.

You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. The things which you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses, entrust these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also. Suffer hardship with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier in active service entangles himself in the affairs of everyday life, so that he may please the one who enlisted him as a soldier. [2 Timothy 2:1-4]

In the wilderness the L-rd gave the children of Israel an extended boot camp, preparing them to defend themselves and take back the land He had promised to Abraham.

When Joshua and the people of Israel crossed over the river Jordan with the Ark of the Covenant and the priests in front [Joshua chapters 3 and 4], they were prepared for battle with 40,000 soldiers equipped for war.

Finally, be strong in the L-rd and in the strength of His might. Put on the full armor of G-d, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore, take up the full armor of G-d, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm. [Ephesians 6:10-13 NASU]

Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. [1 Timothy 6:12 NASU]

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near. [Hebrews 10:23-25 NASU]

But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.  [2 Timothy 4:5]

Come to the SBMF Encampment this June in Phoenix, Arizona.

SBMF Annual Meeting News From Your President And Servant

Dear fellow workers in Messiah’s fields:

It is almost time for our Annual Meeting!  I am looking forward to seeing all of you, and catching up on what Yeshua is doing in your lives and ministries. I am excited about all of the work you are doing for the Kingdom!

Our meeting will be June 10th and 11th this year. Our theme is “Preparing for Spiritual Warfare”. We are in the midst of the battle between our L-rd and the Enemy of our souls, and we need to be aware and prepared for it. HaSatan knows that his time is nearly over, and he is attacking the workers of G-d. We have reports of illness, financial woes, relationship issues, and numerous other problems cropping up in the Fellowship. This does not mean we are failing, nor does it mean we are working against the Father. What it does mean is we are being effective, rescuing souls from Sheol, and the Enemy doesn’t like it! Baruch HaShem! (Praise the Name!)

We are changing the order of our meetings this year.  In order to ‘leave on the right note’, we will be moving the Business Meeting to Saturday afternoon, and having a Havdalah/Praise and Worship service in the evening.

I am looking forward to being with brothers and sisters in Messiah.

May you be blessed! See you in June!

Rabbi Mike Saffle, President SBMF

We believe that music and dance are a very important aspect of worship and spiritual warfare. When the Israelites went into battle the musicians went out before them preparing the way. We believe music is important to G-d and is a powerful weapon against our spiritual enemies. G-d's music has power for us as well, it can calm our spirits and minds, and help to bring us into the presence of G-d.

Our desire, first and foremost, is to praise G-d in a way that is worthy of Him. To declare the name of Yeshua/Jesus to the world, prayerfully making a difference in the lives of those G-d is calling to Himself. To be used by G-d to minister to the needs of others, at the same time being ministered to ourselves, as only G-d can do. Our desire is to totally submit ourselves and worship to G-d and His will, being obedient to the leading of Ruach HaKodesh (the Holy Spirit).

The Teaching For This Years Erev Shabbat Will Be From:

Brother Ric Worshill

Brother Ric Worshill has served the local Church, his local SBC association, NAMB and the SBMF for several years.  He has served as the assistant to two prior SBMF presidents.  He served four years as the President of the SBMF and is now serving as the Vice-President.  Brother Ric is a Jewish believer in Yeshua as Mashiach.

Brother Ric is a servant to and minister of Christ first and foremost.  He has served his community as a Police officer for over twenty-six years.  His service as a police officer includes, Evidence Technician, Fire, Bomb and Arson Investigator.  He was a detective for eight of those twenty-six years.  Besides being a police patrol officer he is a police chaplain.  As a police officer he fights a battle every day that he puts on his uniform.  This police position is a ministry of Christ.  When he takes his police uniform off he puts on his other minister & chaplaincy duties.   These divine appointments place him in a position to bring light into dark places, encourage the broken hearted and build up the saints in Christ.

The most compelling part of his ministry service is his zeal to build up the saints and prepare them for service in the mission fields.  His time in the SBMF has been dedicated to helping missionaries get trained up for the mission fields and helping congregational planters start successful new congregations.

Brother Ric specializes in Emergency Services Police Chaplaincy.  The chaplaincy ministry he serves is centered on critical incident crisis intervention.  This is specific to the emotional and spiritual care of people in crisis.  A large portion of this chaplaincy service is to law enforcement personal.  Brother Ric also ministers to people in Disaster Relief Chaplaincy.  He has done this chaplaincy work since 1987.  The ministry that he started in 1998 is called Police Shomreem Ministries.  Brother Ric serves in this chaplaincy ministry with his wife Chaplain Gwenn Worshill and some volunteer chaplains.  Police Shomreem Ministries mainly serves in the geographical areas of Northeastern Illinois and Southeastern Wisconsin.

Police Shomreem Ministries is a Rapid Response - Emergency Services Chaplaincy Ministry. This chaplaincy ministry is an independent, on call, emergency services, public safety and disaster relief chaplaincy. They are on-call to any law enforcement agency or community that is in need of chaplaincy services.  Ric and his wife serve on two Rapid Response Critical Incident Stress Management teams.

Brother Ric is ordained into pastoral ministries as a Southern Baptist Minister and an Ordained Messianic Rabbi.  He is denominationally endorsed as a Police Chaplain and a Disaster Relief Chaplain by the SBC, North American Mission Board, Chaplaincy Endorsement Commission.  He serves his local church in the position of deacon.  He also served for two years as the Moderator of the Lake County Baptist Association.

The years he has spent in law enforcement and chaplaincy have helped him understand that people need the love of Christ, encouragement  from a believer and a ministry of presence from someone who really cares, during those times of life crisis.  He also understands that the saints need to be trained up to withstand the effects of the battle and mission fields where they serve.  Being prepared for any battle makes the war much easier to fight.

Ric teaches that the local congregation should be a place where anyone can go to be encouraged by and discipled in the light of Mashiach.  The local congregation should be a group of people who love other people enough to go out, risking everything to find the lost and tell them about Yeshua.   The local congregation should be willing to stand in the gap and disciple people to disciple others.

Ric is the husband of Gwenn, the father of two and the grandfather of seven.  Ric and Gwenn have a Dachshund puppy named Havah.

One of Ric's favorite quotes is from Peter Deyneka Jr., founder of the Slavic Gospel Association.  "Where there's much prayer, there's much power!. Where there's little prayer, there's little power, and where there's no prayer, there's no power"

He has lectured, written and counseled in the area of marriage and family, parenting and the establishment of Christian homes.

Brother Bruce has been our guest speaker for a SBMF Annual meeting Yeshiva before.  His last teaching gave us an idea of how the Disciple Center model works. It illustrated how to empower the saints with sound biblical foundations from both the Hebraic Roots and the fundamentals of the Church.

Brother Bruce is currently serving as the SBMF Manager of Ministry Training.  This office is an elected office that he has served in for several years.  Brother Bruce is responsible for planning and developing resources for ministry training that will aid the SBMF saints in their ministry service.

The Havdalah / Praise and Worship Teaching Will Be Given By:

Brother Mike Saffle (SBMF President and Congregational Leader of  Shalom Adonai Messianic Fellowship, Wichita, KS.)

Brother Mike Saffle is serving as the President of the Southern Baptist messianic Fellowship. Rabbi Mike's duties with the SBMF include facilitating the Annual Meeting, coordinating new works, getting workers assigned to the appropriate areas, and spreading the word about the SBMF to our brothers and sisters both inside and outside the SBC umbrella.

Rabbi Mike’s heart is for the lost.  His love for Israel and her people is matched only by his desire for all lost people, both Jew and Gentile, to come to faith In Yeshua.  Mike knows that the Enemy of the soul, Satan, desires to destroy the Jewish remnant, because if he destroys the remnant, then he defeats G-d’s Promise. Mike works to ensure that there is always a believing remnant among the Jewish people. His work with Southern Baptist and other church denominations centers around teaching about the Covenant, the Promise, and the Jewish roots of faith in Yeshua-Jesus. He encourages church leaders to support Israel and Jewish missions, acts as a mentor and helper for those called to start new works among Jewish populations around the country, and provides information and resources for anyone who is interested in reaching people for Yeshua. Mike is available to teach seminars and 'Mission Weekends', as well as for Seders and other events. His heart is to see the Apple of G-d's Eye return to Him, with joy and praise.  May He Who is Eternal be blessed and praised forever!

Mike is helped in his ministry by his wife of 23 years, Connie, and by their oldest son, Joshua.

Mike is the Rabbi/Pastor of Shalom Adonai Messianic Baptist Fellowship, located in Wichita, KS. He serves as the President of the SBMF, and also as a Chaplain at the Wichita Juvenile Detention Facility and Union Rescue Mission. His 'paying job', Special Education teacher for PrairieView Mental Health Hospital, provides additional ministry opportunities.  He has been in Messianic Ministries for about 13 years.

Mike has been a believer for 34 years. He is a first-generation believer, who has had the privilege of seeing his immediate family come to Messiah. He has been involved with evangelism and discipleship for many years, and his heart is for the Apple of G-d's Eye to come to see Messiah as He truly is, and to accept Him as the One True King.

Mike holds both Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Special Education, from Wichita State University. He currently has the Master's plus 30 hours...enough to fulfill requirements for an Education Specialist degree (but not some of the required classes). This degree stands between the Master's and Doctorate. He continues to take classes in order to recertify as a Special Education teacher.

Mike teaches Middle School Special Education at PrairieView Psychiatric Hospital, in Newton, KS. He works with inpatient students, those who are in-hospital due to mental illness. He teaches all subjects, giving students the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed. He acts as a mentor and spiritual leader for the school staff, as well as for his students. He is able to minister to these children at a time when they are vulnerable and fragile. Please pray for these students as they navigate the road back to health.

Mike's position with the Wichita Juvenile Detention Facility is a volunteer chaplaincy: he leads Sunday morning church services once a month. He preaches the Good News of Yeshua to teenagers who have fallen astray. These teens are looking for a way out of their circumstances, and Mike points them to the only True Way: Yeshua.

Mike said:  To the One True King, Messiah Yeshua, be all the praise, power, glory, and honor!  Baruch HaShem Yeshua!
